I find blogging a lot harder this time of year when it seems that there is so much
less to take pictures of.  But after getting a phone call to see if we were okay
(because there was no blog post 2 days in a row),
I thought I'd get the camera out and look for something beautiful.
Does this picture do the trick?
PS it's a flower on my Quick Fire Hydrangea

Should have left sooner for our walk...
then maybe we would have stayed dry:)
This little guy didn't care a whit though!

We found this dragonfly on the back lawn this afternoon.
We thought it was dead, but when we got close, it was definitely alive!
I think that it might just be too cold for it to fly away.

The weather is definitely changing around here.
The snow has begun to coat the mountains all around,
the leaves are falling in earnest,
the shorts and T-shirts have been abandoned for warmer clothes,
and the winter birds are everywhere, flitting from one feeder to the next!
There is something to love about this time of year.

Reuben built himself a little house of sticks pillows.
Hopefully the Big Bad Wolf little brother doesn't come along
and blow the walls over...

I love getting this magazine subscription in the mail.
What it's all about?  Here's a description from their website...

"Seeing the Everyday is an advertisement-free magazine on the prosaic
(commonplace or ordinary)  — a renewed perspective that finds greater
meaning and sometimes hidden purposes in everyday life and daily parenting."

The authors see the importance and wonderfulness in everyday life...
from picking apples...to raking leaves...to teaching our kids to help
with the household chores - and to enjoy doing so as a family in the process.

Friendship - I Heart Faces

Posted by Picasa
Josie and Adah have been friends since they were babies.
Then last month, Adah moved away, too far away for play dates...
too far away for playing together at school.

When I saw the theme for this month's I HEART FACES photo challenge,
I immediately thought of this photo.
I think it is the perfect picture of FRIENDSHIP!

If you love pumpkin...and you love chocolate chip cookies,
this recipe is for you!

Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Cookies

* Preheat oven to 375*F.
* Mix and set aside:
    2 1/4 cups flour
    1 tsp baking powder
    1/2 tsp baking soda
    1 1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice
* Beat until light and fluffy:
    1 cup butter, softened
    1 cup sugar
* Beat in, one at a time, until smooth and well blended:
    2 eggs
* Mix in until smooth:
    1 can (16oz) 100% pure pumpkin
    1 tsp vanilla extract
* Gradually add the flour mixture, a little at a time, until smooth.
* Stir in:
    1 cup chopped walnuts (I omitted these)
    1 cup chocolate chips (or more if you don't use the walnuts)
* Drop by spoonfuls on parchment-lined cookie sheets
* Bake until edges are golden, about 18-20 minutes

I doubled the recipe and made about 200 cookies.  They freeze well.
(I used a 28oz can of pumpkin for a double recipe and it worked out great.)

If you try this recipe, leave a comment and let me know what you think!!

Look!  RAIN!  It's really raining!
After experiencing the driest 2 months in recorded history, it's really raining!
In August and September, we had 7.8mm of rainfall.
The average?  177.5mm!!
It's been wonderful...but all good things come to an end.
The weather forecast...RAIN..and more rain.
But I'm not complaining.  We really need it.
Go outside and smell the rain!  Delicious!

It's another beautiful day today, so while Reuben was at preschool,
Blake & I had some time to spend at Salish Park.
Amazing really, this weather we've had.
But the weatherman promises us that the rains are coming...and soon.
Enjoy the sun while it lasts!!

Close up of a Morning Glory that I started from seed in May.
Looking at this picture kinda makes me think of a stick man out for a walk.
Am I the only one that thinks so??
