Out my kitchen window this afternoon...
best sight ever...
four kids playing peacefully together in the sandbox.
Left them to play until 6:30pm :)
Bring on Spring!!!
March 9
On Friday evening, the kids were so excited to show us
what they had been working so hard on at school.
(Some were just more willing to pose :)

March 8
Ok, go ahead, call me a dork, but this made my day:)
So happy to see that these mating wood ducks are nesting in our nest box again this year.
And even happier to get this picture of both of them together like this.
Last year, the male waited for the female close by in the slough but this year,
the daddy sits on top of the box while the mama goes in and lays her egg.
She seemed a bit confused with this because when she was finished in the box,
she peeked out and looked around for a long time for her mate in the water,
then finally left the box and swam away without him.
He sat for a bit, waited, then started calling her, but she left.
Then he flew off and landed by her, and together they swam away.

"Like my army helmet, Mom?"
Why an army helmet??
"Cause it protects my head and nose, and I can still peek out at the bad guys."

March 3
Such a calm scene after five crazy / busy / noisy days with all the kids home.
Think they will have school tomorrow???
March 2
Knowing that the snow never lasts long around here,
I had to have a picture before the rain started...
March 1
No more suet in the freezer and the birds were fluttering about nervously,
knowing the cold weather would be upon them soon.
So we quickly made a batch.
It was definitely appreciated.
The varied thrush sat on top of the feeder, happily eating,
until the next thrush came along and wanted a turn.
In all, there were three thrushes alternating at the feeder, all day Sunday during the snow storm.
They even shared with any other birds that came along.
Fun to watch:)
