April 27

Posted by Picasa
This is definitely not the greatest of pictures, but I have
proof that the evening grosbeak is back!  We've been waiting
all April for them, but this morning there they were!
Better make sure there's lots of black oil sunflower seeds out there!

  1. cool!! haven't seen any up here on the hill yet, although I have had a lot of humming birds already. We usually have tons of evening grosbeaks, but I feel bad putting seed out for them as some of them swoop when they fly away and hit the glass railing and die. :( Just photographed a stunned calliope hummingbird on the deck.

PS: I put out suet for the first time ever a few months ago, thanks to your photos! It was neat, lots of downy woodpeckers and northern flickers. And numerous other birds, of course. Lots of starlings too :( they are such pigs.

  2. Hi Cathy! Watching birds is so much fun, huh! Do you make your own suet? The hummingbirds are slow to come, I always have a few, but by July they've gone for the year again. The crazy weather we've been having must have something to do with how late the birds are this year. Thanks for reading!
