Deep down I knew there was a reason that I hadn't chucked these
old jeans in the garbage.  Next time you see these,
they will be part of a new quilt I'm hoping to make!
Has anyone made a ragtime quilt that included jeans before?
If you, do you have any pointers or suggestions?
Leave me a comment if you do.

So glad that the winter birds have found my lilac tree.
All winter long you can find birds hiding out here.
The bird feeders are full and the suet is outside too.
Have you made your suet yet?

Excitement always runs high when Reuben finds out he's going to play with Tyler.
Yesterday was no exception.
They always say that there's no employee like a Dutch one, so with Tyler's Daddy being as busy as he is, he thought he'd train these two.  Hardhats, gloves, hammers, sawzall, ladder...they are well on their way.  Tyler thought that all they really needed yet was a set of plans for the jobsite!
(Thanks Krista for the pictures!)

Here's another edition of 'What Dustin Created'.
The kids don't have a hockey net to practice taking shots at,
so he created one from cast-off pieces of wood
(notice the drawer front panel in the bottom picture).
They need a very good shot to get it past this 'goalie'!

Reuben is such a blessing to have around everyday.  Him being born in
January gives me another whole year with him before he goes to the big school.
I will miss his sweet ways so much when that time comes.

Today we were going to the doctor (for some X-ray results) when he said
:"Mom, I think you have a kidney stone.  That's why it hurts so much."
(He knew that kidney stones HURT from my past experience with them.)
I told him "No, it's my back that hurts."
But Mom, I think it's a kidney stone.  It's still growing, it's not ready yet.
It's in your heart right now," he said seriously and with childlike authority.
I assured him that I wasn't having pain from a kidney stone.
At the doctor, she explained the X-rays, then said,
"And we also found a kidney stone!"
Maybe he'll be a doctor when he grows up!!

Yesterday was such a beautiful fall day that I went outside
and raked leaves.  When Dustin came home, he finished raking,
then proceeded to put all the little piles into one big pile...
in usual Dustin-style.  He rigged this up...
Skelter, bike trailer, cardboard box...
and got right to work.  He was happy for hours.
His imagination and determination is so amazing to see.

A few of you guessed that yesterday's mash was made of avocado.
You were very right.  I read that avocado is a very good first food
for babies so I had to try it.  I took a banana and an avocado and
threw them in the blender together.  So easy and so healthy!

Any guesses what it is?

Hope this guy can brighten your day.

There's something about this picture that hits me deep.
Josie loves to take pictures and I'm usually more than agreeable
when she asks if she can use the camera...and I'm glad when she
gets pictures like this.  The picture's not perfect..but it captures
something so special here...I think!

It's a bit blurry but I love this picture.
Notice that Josie is carefully
keeping Blake's hand out of the way

Oh, to have 1/2 as much energy as this kid!
The weather has been so beautiful the past few days
and the kids are spending lots of time outside.

Malia was over this morning and at one point it was just
a little too quiet upstairs.  So I went to investigate,
bracing myself for what I would find.
As you can see, I was pleasantly surprised!

And today Kevin is celebrating a birthday.
Hope you have a wonderful day!

This baby Blue Heron seems to be scared of nothing.
He was happily perched right above the munching goats
and he didn't fly away when we came along...
which is saying quite a lot because Reuben's training wheels are NOISY!!

And for those of you who left a comment on Saturday...
it was the automatic car wash in town.
The kids love the triple colored bubbles!
Today Reuben was asking again to have a car wash...
sorry buddy!

On Saturday we went to pick apples.
The tree was loaded...we came home with 4 boxes.
They aren't quite ready yet, but in a few weeks, I'll be busy making applesauce.
Thanks Uncle Rob, for the delicious apples!!

A couple of nights ago, we had this for dinner.
Pork tenderloin in the crock pot.
It got rave reviews from the entire family!!

Edited to add recipe:
2 or 3 tenderloins - cut in 2 inch pieces, seasoned to your liking.
For seasoning I used seasoned salt, pepper, garlic, onion powder
and pork seasoning (Verstegen* Varkensvlees Kruidenmix).
Put all spices in a big Ziploc bag, add tenderloin, seal bag, and shake.
Pan fry tenderloin in butter til brown on all sides.
Put into the crock pot with celery and red pepper.
Add 2 cans cream soup.  I used 1 cream of mushroom, 1 cream of chicken soup.
I also added some of the drippings from the tenderloin.
Cook on low for 6 hours.
I added frozen corn and peas about an hour before serving.
Serve with cooked chow mien noodles.
So yummy!

All stretched out, having a long nap!

It's just another day in the sandbox.
I don't know where they ever got this idea from...
but it's one of their favorite past times.
